KEEPING costs down while wedding planning can often cause tensions to rise between engaged couples.

But a groom shocked Reddit users when he issued an awkward apology after being caught shaming his bride on the site for wanting a "too extravagant" £700 dress.

A groom has been slammed online for shaming his bride's desire to wear a £700 wedding dress which he deemed "too extravagant"

In a post titled 'Am I the a**hole for telling my fiancée her wedding dress choice is way to extravagant?' the American man explained that the couple had worked hard to save £7,648 for their big day.

He revealed that when his other half, Emma, said she wanted to wear a £726 dress and £91 veil he "put his foot down and set to work finding cheaper alternatives".

The future groom reasoned: "I'm using my dad's old tux he used for his wedding to my mom, just had it taken in a little, Emma can't use her mum's dress as her and her mum both say the style hasn't aged well which is fair.

"I had a quick google around at dresses online and there were so many, and so many just like the one Emma wants for like $50 (£38) to $100 (£77).

I'm not trying to get her to cheap out on her dress but she will literally wear it once

Groom-to-be

"I'm not trying to get her to cheap out on her dress but she will literally wear it once, one dress for over $1000 (£768) is just insane that would fund our honeymoon."

The man added that he couldn't understand why she wanted it "specially fitted", and that he wouldn't let her drop the large amount of money even though she argued she was "using her own money" and despite her parents offering to fund the cost.

He asked: "Is there something I am seriously missing because after we argued about the dress Emma has been extremely cold towards me.

"Then yesterday she said if I want her to cheap out on her wedding dress on her wedding day that she needs to really consider if we are a good match for marriage.

"I'm blown away that she would say that over a dress, I told her she's like a toddler throwing a tantrum over a sparkly toy she can't have, that was a mistake as she left to stay with her parents, who called to tell me I am much more than an a**hole."

Many Reddit users were quick to come to the bride-to-be's defence - and pointed out that her dress was actually relative cheap compared to what some bridalwear can cost

One person wrote: "You say you don't want her to cheap out, but then you say you want her to buy a $50 (£38) - $100 (£76) wedding dress. That's cheap. That's cheap even for a regular dress."

Another commented: "Honestly. I was going into this thread expecting her to want a 10k dress like the ones you'd see on Say Yes to the Dress or something. $950 (£727) and $120 (£91) for a veil is practically a steal depending on the area."

If my fiancé called me a toddler for spending one grand of my own money on a reasonably-priced dress for our wedding, I'd be seriously reconsidering the marriage

Reddit user

A third shared: "If my fiancé called me a toddler for spending one grand of my own money on a reasonably-priced dress for our wedding, I'd be seriously reconsidering the marriage. That's such childish behaviour."

And a fourth added: "Wedding dresses and their tailoring are expensive. $1000 (£766) is actually a low priced dress. Yeah, the industry may be messed up and slightly exploitative, but honestly not too terribly priced of a wedding dress."

Things got more bizarre still when it appeared Emma had discovered him criticising her wedding dress choice in the popular online forum.

He amended the post to include: "Emma found this thread, it was a mistake to post here and I'm sorry I posted our problems on Reddit."

The Dessy Group, a leading online Bridesmaid Dress Store, receives the highest ranking available from TopConsumerReviews.com for another consecutive year.

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (PRWEB) January 17, 2020

TopConsumerReviews.com once again gave its best-in-class 5 star rating to The Dessy Group, a top-ranked online Bridesmaid Dress Store.

When a bride-to-be pictures her ideal wedding, her thoughts quickly turn to her attendants. What will she want them to wear, and in what color(s)? Finding dresses that meet the image she has in her mind can be a challenge - coordinating bridesmaids who may be scattered around the world, ensuring that their dresses match perfectly in both style and hue, and getting every dress delivered in time to make any necessary alterations could be stressful for everyone involved. Fortunately, there are several reputable online Bridesmaid Dress Stores that can take most of the hassle out of the process. These retailers carry the world's best selection of Bridesmaid Dresses, in all of the day's trendiest and classic styles, in a full range of sizes to fit the needs of virtually any bridal party. Best of all, online stores are typically priced competitively with what might be found in a local bridal or formalwear store.

"When considering online Bridesmaid Dress Stores, you'll find a lot of shady companies out there. With The Dessy Group, you can set all your fears aside and focus on discovering the dresses that will make your bridesmaids shine on your special day," affirmed Brian Dolezal of TopConsumerReviews.com, LLC. "In business since 1939, The Dessy Group carries more than 400 dress styles - ones that you may have seen featured at retailers like Nordstrom - in a fantastic array of colors, designs and brands. One of the reasons this online Bridesmaid Dress Store continues to stand out is because of their appeal to such a broad range of customers. Almost every dress we found was available in longer lengths for taller ladies, and in sizes up to 30W. Another huge perk at buying bridesmaid dresses through The Dessy Group is the retailer's relationship with Pantone, putting 180 unique color options and yearly color guides into the hands of every eager (and maybe a little particular) bride-to-be. For all in-stock bridesmaid dresses, a 30-day refund policy applies, assuming that they are in unworn condition with the tags still attached. It's easy to see why so many women choose The Dessy Group as their preferred Bridesmaid Dress Store. We're genuinely pleased to award The Dessy Group another first-place ranking in 2020."
