Using interviews with specialists, online reviews and personal experience, TODAY editors, writers and experts take care to recommend items we really like and hope you'll enjoy! TODAY does have affiliate relationships with various online retailers. So, while every product is independently selected, if you buy something through our links, we may get a small share of the revenue.

We're all ready to shed those winter layers and step into something more breezy for the warmer months.

With summer right around the corner, it's peak dress shopping season, so before you revamp your wardrobe, we tapped a few of our favorite style experts to recommend some of the best dresses for plus-size ladies.

From picking comfortable fabrics (hello, summer heat) to embracing bold patterns, they offered some great tips to help you choose solid staples for the season.

Now all that's left for you to do is shop to your heart's content!

Choose comfortable fabrics

We all want to look cute, but let's face it, comfort is also top of mind, especially during the warmer months. And summer dresses with easy breezy fabrics are your best bet.

"Any material that has some stretch to it is the way to go. The dress will always hug your curves and still move with you while you're on the go. The fabric should also be light and breathable so you won't get too hot trying to look cute," said fashion stylist, personal shopper and model Jasmine Okoli.

Fabrics to try: cotton, linen, jersey knit, spandex, polyester, modal, microfiber

Comfy dresses we love:

  • 1. Jersey Knit Swing Dress, $25-27, Amazon

Stretchy jersey knit and fashion-forward sleeves put this summer dress at the top of our wish list!

  • 2. A Pleasure Indeed Knit Dress in Navy, $49, Modcloth

Keep cool and look cute in a pretty blue summer dress featuring slight ruching at the waist.

  • 3. Cold-Shoulder Casual T-Shirt Dress, $16-25, Amazon

An LBD is a year-round style staple, and we're particularly digging this version with cutout sleeves and an unfussy silhouette.

Consider your proportions

When shopping for plus-size dresses, start by thinking about the features on your body you most want to emphasize.

"I think the best styles are the ones that fit your proportions well. It's all about the tiered or flounced trapeze dress in airy fabrics," said Zahir Babvani, VP of Design for Woman Within.

Seek out dress styles that accentuate your shape rather than hide it — steer clear of boxy dresses that don't embrace your beautiful curves.

Styles to try: empire waists, ruching, peplums, wrap dresses

Flattering styles we love:

  • 1. Loft Plus Tossed Flower Flutter Wrap Dress, $80, Loft

In the dog days of summer, a loose-fitting wrap dress is ultra comfy and glides along your curves beautifully.

  • 2. Expert in Your Zeal A-Line Dress, $49, Modcloth

You want to show off your gorgeous curves, not hide them away! Try a flirty silhouette that takes your curves into consideration and emphasizes your best assets.

  • 3. Yskkt Plus Size Peplum Dress, $20-27, Amazon

Summer is wedding season, and finding the perfect wedding guest dress is always a challenge. Emphasize your hourglass shape with a fun peplum in a deep color.

Embrace maxi dresses

This classic summer staple works beautifully in plus-size styles, and it keeps you cool and comfy. Win, win!

"Maxi dresses fit nicely at the hips but also loosely at the bottom. They accentuate the neck and back, keeping every woman feeling sexy, especially if they're low cut and feature the shoulders," Okoli said.

What to look for: flowy maxis, maxis with added slits

Plus-size maxis we love:

  • 1. Leith Bell Sleeve Midi Dress, $89, Nordstrom

A pretty pastel maxi dress is perfect to transition from spring to summer, so it's a great wardrobe staple.

  • 2. Button-Front Maxi Dress, $63 (originally $93), Roaman's

You can never go wrong with a seasonally appropriate floral dress. This one just so happens to come with an adorable high-low hem.

  • 3. Milumia Plus Size Short Sleeve Wrap V Neck Maxi Dress, $36, Amazon

Combine two stellar plus-size styles — wraps and maxis — in one with this feminine frock.

Try something bold

Sometimes, a bright color or loud print can be a bit intimidating, but it's always fun to take a fashion risk.

"When shopping for summer dresses, don't be afraid of color or patterns. Clothes always look differently on you than on the hanger. It will also help you to see the fit, feel of fabric, and what colors/patterns look best on your body shape," said plus-size modelKristin Schackmann.

Styles to try: fun florals, bold neons

Bold styles we love:

Summer's the perfect time to break out daring neons and bright pinks, ladies! We'll take this cute style in every color, please.

  • 2. Ever-Present Zest Cotton Dress, $79, Modcloth

When life hands you lemons ... go for a playful fruity print! This cotton dress features a flattering sweetheart neckline and a full-sweeping skirt that create a beautiful silhouette.

People Are Renting Their Wedding Dresses and Saving Money - Cosmopolitan.com

Posted: 22 May 2019 08:55 AM PDT

It was a dress I definitely would not have chosen for myself—and in fact, someone else helped me pick it out. But there I was getting married in it. And another person would end up wearing the same one—like, the exact gown—the following week.

That might sound a liiiiitle weird to someone else, but to me, renting my wedding dress was a total no-brainer.

Lemme back up: The dress—a knee-length, all-white Badgley Mischka number with can't-miss-'em bell sleeves—was from Rent the Runway, which launched a "wedding concierge" service last year, not long after I got engaged. The company offers packages based on the amount of clothing you think you'll need for the onslaught of events leading up to the big day—and best of all, for the wedding itself. And the designers, including Temperley London and Christian Siriano, are no joke either.

You also get a free accessory for every look and a personal stylist who can help with orders—in my case, she even decided on the dress I ended up wearing because I'd already tried on, like, a thousand options and none of them felt right.

Rent the Runway isn't the only company letting you borrow white dresses with bridal vibes. Style Lend, an NYC-based business, operates a similar inventory stocked with designers like Self-Portrait, Zimmermann, and Brandon Maxwell. Borrowing Magnolia also sells previously worn wedding looks at a major discount. Nowadays, you can even lease accessories like veils from a site called Happily Ever Borrowed.

I had no desire to clutter my closet with a ginormous gown I'd never wear again.

So yeah, this was a lifesaver for me—I had no desire to clutter my closet with a ginormous white gown I'd never wear again. I get that some people like to keep The Dress for sentimental reasons for their kids. But the reality is that they probably won't end up wanting to wear the same thing you did. (Let's not even talk about your mom's bridal shoulder pads.)

Plus, I didn't want to blow a ton of cash. This wasn't my only wedding—just the first one, with a justice of the peace, to make us "official." We had a big Indian celebration with friends and family—with a traditional red-and-gold dress by an Indian designer—a few months later.

Even if it had been my only wedding dress, I can think of so many more useful ways to spend my money: a live band, a late-night snack buffet, an open bar. I've got priorities.

My friends who are about to tie the knot are starting to get wise to the rental thing now—even the ones going for the full-blown princess look. And to anybody who doesn't get it, I say: I have the memories and the pics—what else do I really need?

The closet space, that's what.

Thankfully, some bride-groom duos are ditching strict dress codes. More and more, we're seeing couples toss out black tie traditions and opt for more casual weddings. Angry parents say prom dress designer took money and never delivered - Fox 2 Detroit

Posted: 22 May 2019 08:27 PM PDT

- Several girls contacted FOX 2 and posting their complaints on social media, upset their prom dresses they paid to get made months ago, aren't ready.

The teens are pointing the finger at Angelina Nwogu, the owner of the Ijeoma Collection on Greenfield in Oak Park.

FOX 2: "We wanted to talk to you, everyone is saying their dresses aren't ready, they said they paid hundreds sometimes, up to a thousand dollars and they want their prom dresses."

(door closes)

That conversation didn't last long. FOX 2 headed to the Crown Plaza's lobby and met up with one of the mothers who believes her high school senior was taken.

"(I wanted to) make sure she had everything she wanted because she worked so hard her way through high school to have a woman like this, do this, that is ridiculous," said Jana Wilkins.

Jana Wilkins says her daughter saw dresses advertised on Ijeoma Collection Instagram and on Facebook page - deciding on the one she wanted.

Last September - she put $600 down - and expected to pay the remainder of $400 when they picked up the dress.

It is less than a week before her senior prom - and they have nothing to show for it. That is why she headed to the Oak Park business - and FOX 2 caught their confrontation on camera.

Wilkins: "I am trying to find out how come she hasn't had a fitting, or seen a dress or anything her prom is next Thursday. I feel that is extremely inappropriate. If any type of work has been done on a gown, my child should have seen it by now.

"This is unacceptable and I want to know what is going on."

FOX 2: "What is the status of the dresses?"

"She is supposed to have a fitting next week, we have already established that," Nwogu said. "

Wilkins: "Why is she having a fitting if her prom is next week?"

"Because I don't have any help anymore," said Nwogu.

Nwogu refused to let Wilkins see the dress and didn't offer any sort of explanation about her daughter's dress or any of the others that still haven't been produced for prom goers.

Instead, the alleged dressmaker called police claiming we were harassing her. But Wilkins and many others who are out hundreds of dollars say they are the true victims - and just want their money back.

"My child has been taken advantage of," Wilkins said. "And I am going to fight for my child. That's not right and she needs to be punished for what she has done."

Another woman told FOX 2 by phone that her daughter has her prom this week and hasn't had her fitting yet.
