The Nicki Minaj and Summer Jam Saga...Nicki Steps up to Funk Master Flex

Nicki Minaj was meant to perform over the weekend at the popular yearly Hot 97 Summer Jam concert, but pulled out at the last minute. A lot have been said since that incidence went down, and while reading some of Nicki's comments, i was actually starting  to take sides with her, and thinking- this chick is actually cool, she is actually standing up to Funk Master Flex in a very mature way; only to keep reading and see that it was really her Big Ego that was talking.

Let me break it down- she was meant to perform at the summer jam, but Lil Wayne pulled her out a couple of hours before her performance because a DJ at Hot 97 had dissed her indirectly. Peter Rosenberg, the Hot 97 DJ said-  "Shout out to all my real hip-hop heads and none of these Starship artists". This is a direct jab at Nicki Minaj's Starship song, which is definitely a Pop song, and not a Hip Hop song.

Funk Master Flex, being a co-worker of Rosenberg, stood behind him, and made some negative comments about Nicki too...saying-   “We ain’t fu**in’ with commercial rappers no more. If you lost the fu**in’ streets, it’s your fault. If you don’t go gold, it’s your fault,” he said yesterday as tensions were at their height. “I’m dedicated to tearing you down. If you not buying no more commercial albums, hit me on Twitter right now.”

Those lines definitely got to Nicki...or rather, got to her Big Ego, cos she called in on Funk Master Flex show yesterday, and spoke her mind. I have to give it to her though...i mean, obviously knowing someone doesn't like you, and then calling up the person to ask why he doesn't like you...lol! Anyway, read the conversation below-

“What happened was this, my fans didn’t appreciate his comments,” Nicki Minaj said live on the air. “Like I told you Flex, this was not about 2,000 people that he talking to. This was streamed to the world. that stream was posted on my website”

“Flex, its not about his opinion, because I have opinions about DJS at Hot 97 and hot 97. I wouldnt dare come on your stage leading put o that concur. Everybody is grown enough to keep their opinions to their self. When you disrespect Nicki Minaj, your’e disrespecting my fans. Don’t make those three million people…that their inferior for their personal taste in music.”

“When you invite somebody to your home, you treat somebody with respect.”

“Know that Nicki Minaj sold a lot of tickets last night.” Nicki said and suggested it was an attack on woman. “I am the only woman not that stage holding it down for woman. I respect men that hold it downs for women. Why you ain’t diss Wayne? Why you ain’t diss Wayne?”

“I’m not scared of Wayne,” Flex eventually retorted.
After a while, the pair began to explain what happened. It seemed that communications were strained because cell and mobile receptions were not sufficient to to the sheer volume of traffic.
At press time, the pair were still conversing about the matter, but the nature of the talk had lightened significantly.

Earlier, Flex was rumored to “end careers,” but a talks became this public interview.
Nicki further called Flex to task later in the interview.

“Yesterday, you made a lot of disrespectful comments about me. You said something about my record sales and so I need you to pull up your roster from yesterday and I want you to listen to these statistics.” Nicki then proceeded to run down to Flex all the records that she sold. “Do the math,” she implored Flex. Okay, as i said earlier, i give it to her for calling up her enemy like that, but it is still her Ego that made her do that. I mean, her saying Flex should pull out the roaster of all the people that perform at summer jam and that none of them sold as much albums as she has sold. She doesn't get it; flex was actually talking about quality of music. And on the sales tip, flex was comparing her first album (Pink Friday- 2010), with her new album (Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded). Pink Friday went Gold within 2 weeks...Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded is not Gold yet after 8 weeks on the chart; This is what Flex was trying to point out. She is actually at 493,000 copies sold total now, so she would go Gold next week probably.
