American Apparel : Another twisted tale....

Erm, here goes! We all know that Dov Charney is a bit messed up. I mean all the bad press and negetive advertising campaigns have made him look a bit bad. But even I had to stop and take a moment when reading this one.

A teenager in America is taking the company to court claiming that Charney used her as a sex slave while she worked for the company. The abuse began in 2007 when the girl was 17. Charney told the girl that she would loose her job if she didn't send naked pictures of herself to him and tell him about her sexual history. He also claimed she would be promoted if she slept with him on her 18th birthday.
She left the company briefly in 2008 suffering from a nervous breakdown brought on from the stress of the sexual harrassment. But returned again. She did sleep with Charney on her 18th birthday turning up at his apartment :

"He was wearing nothing but underwear when she arrived and made her perform oral sex on him near the entranceway as soon as she walked in, the lawsuit alleged. He then "dragged her into his bedroom, threw her on the bed, got on top of her and forced her to perform" another sex act, the suit alleged.

"She was then, to all intents and purposes, held prisoner in the apartment for several hours and forced to perform additional sexual acts,"

In a statement released by the company, Charney said that the employee had left the company with a great recommendation, redunancy pay but had made threats before the expose the company. "She made a number of extortion-like threats to expose the company to a threatened avalanche of litigation and negative publicity."

Correct me if I am wrong, but when someone is badly treated and sexually harrassed. They are well within their rights to expose the company. It doesn't make her the attention seeking drama queen Charney is making her out to be.

AA are freaking out. It's bad publicity they don't need. After all, Charney has a string of these cases behind him, the sexually explict advertising and their product just is not shifting. This could not have come at a worse time for the sinking company.

The woman is seeking $250 million from the company.
